Micro Motion
Boulder, Colorado, USA / Global
Micro Motion invented the Coriolis mass flowmeter. In 1977, electrical engineer Jim Smith started the company out of his garage in Boulder, Colorado, with a singular breakthrough: the first practical device capable of measuring mass flow directly, rather than inferring it from volume or velocity. That innovation created a category that didn’t exist before. Today, as an Emerson brand, Micro Motion remains headquartered in Boulder, where Emerson has invested over $100 million in manufacturing and R&D expansion. The product portfolio spans six Coriolis sensor series—ELITE for custody transfer and challenging multiphase flows (±0.05% liquid accuracy), F-Series for compact and high-pressure applications, G-Series for space-constrained installations, H-Series for hygienic processes, R-Series for general utility measurement, and T-Series for straight-tube drainability—plus density meters, FVM fork viscosity meters, net oil computers, and concentration meters. Transmitters range from the 1700 and 2700 for basic multivariable output to the 4200 two-wire and 5700 with advanced diagnostics. Smart Meter Verification performs in-situ meter health checks in under 90 seconds without interrupting the process. The company operates a global network of ISO/IEC 17025 accredited calibration facilities capable of measurement uncertainties as low as ±0.014%. Micro Motion serves oil and gas production, refining, chemical processing, food and beverage manufacturing, pharmaceutical production, and fiscal custody transfer applications worldwide.
