Hypertherm Rotary Tube Pro is a CAD/CAM application purpose-built for rotary-axis tube and pipe cutting. Where general-purpose CAM software treats tube cutting as a 2D plate problem wrapped around a cylinder — often requiring the user to manually unwrap the geometry and manage the rotary-axis kinematics themselves — Rotary Tube Pro works natively with parametric tube definitions. The user selects round tube or rectangular hollow section, enters the outside diameter and wall thickness (or picks from the built-in library of standard tube sizes and schedule-pipe dimensions), and the software generates the 3D part model automatically. This parametric approach means a fabricator quoting a job involving 200 different tube profiles does not need a 3D CAD seat, a STEP export, and a CAM import for each one — the entire bill of materials is created inside Rotary Tube Pro from a dimension table.
How does the nesting engine handle tube and pipe stock?
Rotary Tube Pro nests parts onto tube stock — not flat sheet — which changes the nesting geometry fundamentally. The software performs true-shape nesting along the cylindrical stock surface, placing dissimilar-diameter parts (within the same stock diameter), running part-in-part nesting where a smaller-diameter part nests inside the cutout of a larger one, and managing remnant stock for partially used tube lengths. Seam-orientation control — the ability to constrain a part's rotational position relative to the tube's weld seam — is maintained during automatic nesting, critical for structural applications where a weld seam running through a high-stress zone is unacceptable. Common-edge cutting places adjacent parts so their cut paths share a single kerf line, eliminating the material bridge between parts and saving an additional percent or two of tube stock per job. The software supports both perpendicular cutting as standard and bevel cutting as an optional module for weld-prep applications.

Rotary Tube Pro integrates Hypertherm's SureCut technology suite: True Hole automatically optimises lead-in, lead-out, pierce timing, and cut-speed profiles for bolt holes so the finished hole is round within tolerance without operator trial-and-error on kerf offset. True Bevel reduces setup time for bevel-angle programming on multi-axis tube cutting. Rapid Part uses accelerated cutting parameters where part-edge quality permits, reducing cycle time on non-critical features. The post-processor embeds factory-tested cut charts — feedrate, amperage, gas pressure, pierce height, cut height — for the specific Hypertherm plasma or laser system connected to the machine, and the resulting NC code loads directly onto Hypertherm EDGE CNC controllers with automated job setup. For non-Hypertherm cutting tables, post-processors are available for all major machine brands.
