The HAND-XD is the control unit for Balteau NDT Baltospot portable X-ray generators, purpose-built for industrial non-destructive testing in harsh environments. It drives constant-potential and pulsed generators up to 1500 W through a wireless remote link that lets the operator position up to 100 metres away — with a built-in dosimeter monitoring accumulated exposure dose at the operator position in real time. The aluminium enclosure, protective handles, metallic cover, and military-type connectors are engineered for foundry floors, shipyard decks, and field pipeline inspection.

How does constant-potential technology improve radiographic inspection?

Unlike conventional X-ray generators that produce a pulsating output at twice the mains frequency, the HAND-XD drives Baltospot generators with high-frequency constant-potential DC — ripple below 0.1% on XLD models. This eliminates the soft low-energy end of the spectrum, delivering consistently penetrating radiation at the set kV. The result: shorter exposure times for the same material thickness, better contrast sensitivity, and compliance with stricter acceptance criteria in weld and casting inspection standards.

How does the wireless remote system work?

The 0.9 kg wireless remote carries a 2.5 Ah internal accumulator providing 8 hours of continuous operation. It replicates the 24-key embossed control panel with anti-scratch surface, displaying kV, mA, exposure time, and dose on a 4-line green/black backlit LCD. A 3-step X-ray ON key sequence and lockable emergency stop prevent accidental activation. All 100 exposure programs and 100 last-exposure records are accessible from both the main unit and the remote. For automated inspection cells, RS232 XRRC computer control is available.
