Product Description

The RÖHM 525-60/70 is an automatic safety control unit designed for power-operated pneumatic clamping systems on machine tools. It enforces a pulse-based actuation sequence: the operator must deliberately press a foot or hand switch to initiate clamping or release, and the control unit maintains the command only for the duration of the press. An integrated start interlock prevents the machine spindle from starting until the clamping circuit confirms that operating pressure is within the safe range. This two-hand safety logic meets the requirements of the German Berufsgenossenschaften for power-operated workholding devices.

How does the pulse safety sequence work?

The 525-60/70 uses pneumatic pulse logic rather than a latched on/off state. When the operator presses the foot or hand switch, the unit sends a controlled pneumatic pulse to the clamping cylinder or chuck actuator. If the switch is released mid-cycle, the command stops immediately—there is no maintained contact state. The start interlock circuit samples the clamping pressure continuously; if pressure drops below the safe threshold during machining, the interlock triggers a spindle stop signal. This fail-safe architecture ensures that workpiece clamping integrity is verified before and during spindle operation, and that the machine cannot be started while the operator's hands are in the workholding zone.
