Product Description
The DDC RP-27001X is a 10-channel 115V AC Solid-State Power Controller (SSPC) that replaces banks of mechanical relays, contactors, and thermal circuit breakers with software-configurable semiconductor switching. Each of the 10 channels is independently programmable over a 10:1 current range (5–15 A), with the module supporting a total continuous throughput of 120 A. The RP-27001X was DDC's first AC SSPC — extending the company's established DC solid-state power distribution technology into AC aerospace and military vehicle electrical systems. Note: This product has been discontinued by DDC. Verify availability through legacy spares channels.
How does I²T overload protection with thermal memory work?
Conventional mechanical circuit breakers trip on instantaneous current magnitude alone — they cannot account for the thermal history of the wire. I²T protection continuously integrates current squared over time, modeling the actual heating effect in the load circuit. The RP-27001X maintains a thermal memory of recent overload events, so a second overload occurring before the wiring has fully cooled trips the channel sooner than the first. This prevents cumulative overheating that a simple magnitude-based trip would miss. For battle-short or mission-critical conditions, a Trip Override (Battle) mode suppresses automatic trips and keeps channels energized regardless of overload condition.
What are the SWaP advantages over mechanical alternatives?
DDC claims a 7× reduction in power-to-volume, 5× reduction in power-to-weight, and 70% lower power dissipation compared to equivalent mechanical relay and circuit breaker assemblies. Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF) is rated at 25× that of electromechanical alternatives — a critical advantage in aerospace applications where every unscheduled maintenance event carries disproportionate cost and logistics burden. Controlled rise and fall times on each channel reduce EMI, inrush currents, and inductive transients that would otherwise require external snubber networks.
The RP-27001X communicates via CANbus (SAE J1939 at 250K, 500K, or 1M baud), RS-485, and discrete control lines — reporting per-channel load currents, input voltage, channel output voltages, and both on-board and external temperatures. Compliance with MIL-STD-704F and certifiability to DO-160 make it suitable for manned and unmanned aircraft, military ground vehicles, naval vessels, and weapon system power management.
