The FLASH-A NG is OptoTech's 4-axis freeform surfacing-turning machine for ophthalmic lenses, combining an ultrafast Fast-Tool spindle with a Beckhoff real-time control. It cuts backside progressive, atoric and freeform surfaces in plastic, with an auto loader that keeps the spindle fed.

Why cut a freeform lens on a turning machine instead of a generator?

A conventional generator grinds a lens to a best-fit sphere and leaves the freeform error for polishing to remove. The FLASH-A NG turns and mills the true surface directly with a natural-diamond tool, so the cut lands on the prescription — cut-to-smooth in one pass and up to 160 lenses an hour where a grinder would need a second step.
