Product Description
The OTTO operator control module is a self-contained CAN-driven interface for off-road vehicles and heavy equipment — combining a Hall Effect joystick, a customizable backlit keypad, and status indicator lights in a single IP68-sealed assembly. Rather than sourcing separate joysticks, switches, and a CAN interface module from different vendors, the vehicle OEM or system integrator gets one pre-validated unit with all CAN messaging, error handling, and signal prioritization pre-engineered. The module is built in OTTO's Illinois facility with in-house injection molding, stamping, and CNC machining — every component under one roof.
What does the CAN integration actually simplify?
The module speaks J1939 natively — no custom CAN programming required. All joystick axis positions, keypad button states, and diagnostic messages are transmitted as standardized CAN frames with pre-assigned message IDs and priorities. This means the vehicle's existing CAN bus recognizes the module without a separate gateway or protocol converter. For the design engineer, the deliverable is a CAN database file (.dbc) rather than a software development project. The Hall Effect sensors throughout — joystick axes, toggle, rocker — provide non-contact sensing with no mechanical wear points, rated for 3 million cycles on the keypad switches.
What environments is the IP68 rating actually rated for?
IP68 on OTTO modules means the unit is tested for continuous submersion, not just splash resistance. Combined with the -40 to +85 °C operating range, the module is specified for construction sites, open-cab agricultural equipment, forestry harvesters, and marine applications where the operator interface gets rained on, pressure-washed, or buried in mud. The backlit keypad uses laser-etched legends that won't wear off, and the LED backlighting remains readable in direct sunlight. Field replacement is connectorized — no soldering, no rewiring.
