Product Description

The InteliBifuel INCON 6 from ComAp is an injection control unit for converting stationary and mobile diesel engines to bifuel (diesel + natural gas) or trifuel (diesel + H₂ + natural gas) operation. It directly drives up to six gas injectors in a Multi-Point Injection (MPI) configuration — delivering fuel into the suction manifold in front of each cylinder — and scales to engines with up to 24 cylinders. The result is reduced diesel consumption, lower CO₂ emissions, and retained engine reliability without replacing the base diesel power unit.

How does MPI multi-point injection improve bifuel engine performance?

Unlike single-point fumigation systems that introduce gas at the air intake, MPI places one injector per cylinder — or per cylinder group — delivering precisely metered gas directly to each combustion chamber's intake port. This per-cylinder approach eliminates uneven gas distribution, improves combustion efficiency, and reduces methane slip (unburned gas in the exhaust). The INCON 6 synchronizes injection timing with crankshaft and camshaft position signals, calculating individual injector pulse widths based on engine speed, load, and gas composition.

How does the INCON 6 handle per-cylinder temperature and knock correction?

Each cylinder is monitored individually. The controller applies automatic temperature correction — adjusting gas quantity based on exhaust or cylinder head temperature per cylinder — and automatic knock correction that retards injection timing or reduces gas volume when detonation is detected. Both corrections operate cylinder-by-cylinder, not as a global trim, addressing the reality that cylinders in large industrial engines rarely behave identically due to variations in compression, cooling, and intake flow. Injector current is continuously diagnosed with open-circuit, short-circuit, and communication-loss detection.

What fuel combinations does the INCON 6 support?

The INCON 6 is configured for diesel-gas bifuel operation where diesel serves as the pilot ignition source and gas (natural gas, biogas, or hydrogen) provides the majority of combustion energy. TriFuel mode adds a third fuel — typically hydrogen blended with natural gas — for further carbon reduction. The controller adjusts PWM frequency from 300 Hz to 15 kHz and injector output voltage from 12 to 60 VDC to accommodate a wide range of commercially available gas injectors, including ComAp's own EMIL 75 and EMIL 125 injection valves.
