A coated fabric conveyor belt layers rubber over a carcass, and sooner or later a layer delaminates or an edge frays - and the fragment drops into the product stream. How does a plastic belt show up on a metal detector?

It does not - unless it is formulated to. The PU safe recipe loads the PU 80A with a special thermoplastic blend that standard food-industry metal detectors can pick up, and the blue color makes a torn fragment obvious on a white separator table. That is the belt version of the failsafe: the belt cannot break invisibly.
