Product Description
The HUB6504 from ST Engineering iDirect is a 4IF satellite hub in the Dialog series, designed as a cost-effective gateway for VSAT service providers entering new markets or expanding existing coverage. Each IF supports an independent satellite network — up to four per chassis — with a combined capacity of 60,000 remote terminals and 800 Mbps aggregate throughput.
How does the HUB6504 scale with service provider growth?
The HUB6504 uses a modular, pay-as-you-grow architecture. Operators start with the base 11U chassis and add modulator, demodulator, and blade server cards as subscriber count increases — scaling from a few hundred to 60,000 terminals without replacing the hub. The chassis accommodates up to 18 modulator/demodulator slots, with M6100 modulators, MCD7000 multicarrier demodulators, and MCD7500 high-density demodulators populating slots as needed. Virtual Network Operator (VNO) capabilities allow a single hub to serve multiple downstream service providers with partitioned bandwidth and management.
What transmission technologies does the HUB6504 support?
On the forward (outbound) link, the hub transmits DVB-S2/DVB-S2X carriers at up to 133 Msps with Adaptive Coding and Modulation (ACM), supporting QPSK through 256APSK modulation with roll-off factors from 5% to 35%. On the return (inbound) link, it supports SCPC, MF-TDMA, and iDirect's patented Mx-DMA — a dynamic bandwidth allocation technology that combines the efficiency of TDMA with the performance characteristics of SCPC. Hierarchical QoS with multiple traffic classes ensures optimal bandwidth allocation for mixed voice, data, and video services.
How is carrier-grade reliability achieved?
The HUB6504 is built for 99.99% availability. All critical subsystems are redundant and hot-swappable: the 1500W power modules operate in 1+1 configuration, cooling fans in 2+1, and the 10 MHz/PPS reference clock in 1+1 with automatic fail-over and external GPS input capability. Modulator redundancy is 1+1 per IF. Centralized Dialog Network Management System (NMS) allows operators to manage multiple geographically distributed hubs from a single interface.
