Product Description

Data connectors in a vehicle or a field instrument fail in one of two ways. Either the mating cycle wears the contacts out, or the cable gets snagged and takes the equipment with it. The ODU AMC family is built against both failures, with a metal shell that keeps working after thousands of insertions and a break-away option that releases the cable before it pulls hard enough to damage the device.

Shrinking the shell changes what fits

ODU achieved the small diameter by abandoning the standard protocol connector and designing a physical interface for each signal set from scratch, so the contact pattern matches the cable rather than a generic pinout. A 7 mm shell carrying 27 contacts is what lets a dense sensor housing or a tactical radio keep its connectors out of the airflow and away from impact. The Advanced Mat Connect name comes from that modular contact approach.

Locking style Behaviour
Push-pull Positive lock, cannot pull free
Break-away Releases under strain, protects equipment
Screw-lock Threaded, for constant vibration

Shielding decides whether data survives the trip

Full 360 degree shielding is what separates these from a standard connector in a plastic overmould, and it matters most where the cable runs next to a motor or a radio transmitter. The brass shell carries a ruthenium plating, chosen because it resists wear and keeps contact resistance low through thousands of cycles. Salt spray resistance extends the same reasoning to marine and coastal installations, and the operating range from minus 51 to plus 125 degrees covers both a cold start in the field and a hot engine bay.

  • Break-away function releases the plug before the cable tears
  • Colour coded mechanical keying prevents mismated connections
  • Terminations available for solder cup, printed circuit board and flex
  • High density variant rated for currents up to 15 A per contact

Applications span tactical radios, ruggedised computers, medical instruments that must survive autoclaving, and industrial test equipment, all served from the same catalogue with different locking styles and shell sizes.
