Rotary attachments solved curved-surface marking by spinning the part, which works for cylinders and fails for everything else. Bottle shoulders, ball surfaces, bevelled panels and stepped lids all leave the focal plane of a standard 2D galvo, and the result is the familiar triplet: distorted pattern, yellowed edge, burned rim. The MT-3D-RF replaces the rotary workaround with true 3D beam control, a high-speed 3D galvo scanner driving 30 or 60 W of RF metal-tube CO2 power at 10.6 um, focused dynamically across the surface instead of along one plane.

Why 3D galvo instead of a rotary attachment?

A rotary axis is a mechanical compromise: the part must be round, centred and clamped, and depth control stops where the surface curves away. The 3D scanner adjusts focal length in real time, which is why Mactron rates curved-field marking at 110 x 110 x 40 mm and flat-field marking up to 600 x 600 mm from the same head, with deep engraving reaching different depths in a single pass to build true three-dimensional relief. Speed stays at galvo level, up to 8000 mm/s, and repeatability of plus or minus 0.01 mm with 0.001 mm minimum line width holds texture work on leather, wood, plastic and paper.

Against a flat-bed CO2 engraver, the MT-3D-RF gives up bed size for the ability to mark anything that is not flat, which describes most real packaging, signage and leather goods. Against a 2D galvo marker with rotary add-on, it removes the clamping step and the distortion on non-cylindrical parts. Air cooling and auto overheat protection keep the benchtop unit free of chiller plumbing, and USB plus terminal-block I/O integrate it into production lines where 24-hour operation is the norm.
