Xilinx, Inc. was a leading American semiconductor company specializing in programmable logic devices, best known for inventing the first commercially viable field-programmable gate array (FPGA) in 1985. It pioneered the fabless manufacturing model, allowing it to focus on design while outsourcing production. In February 2022, Xilinx was acquired by AMD for approximately $60 billion, and the brand was phased out in June 2023, with products now sold under the AMD name. Xilinx's adaptive computing solutions have been widely used in data centers, telecommunications, automotive, industrial automation and aerospace industries, enabling customers to quickly adapt to changing market needs and technological innovations.
