The UE Systems Ultraprobe 100 Ultrasonic Inspection System is an analog tool that senses high-frequency sounds produced by operating equipment, leaks, and electrical discharges. The signals are electronically translated by heterodyning, converting high-frequency sounds into the audible range for easy recognition and understanding. Users can both hear sounds through a headset and view them as intensity increments on the LED meter.

The Ultraprobe 100 features an 8-position sensitivity dial with decibel indications, and an LED bar graph display in which each LED equals approximately 3dB for calculating decibel levels. Frequency range is 35 to 44 kHz, with a response time of 300 msec. The system can detect a 0.005in leak at 0.34 bar from 50ft distance.

Ultrasound technology is advantageous for inspection because it produces a high-frequency, short-wave signal that is directional and localized, ideal for point-and-shoot troubleshooting. It can also be easily blocked or shielded and used in noisy environments. Changes in ultrasound provide early warning of potential problems.

Applications include pressure and vacuum leaks, valve seat leaks, exhaust system leaks, leak testing of tanks and pipes, heat exchangers, boilers, condensers, steam trap inspection, bearing testing, gear box inspection, mechanical troubleshooting, and electrical inspection.
