Product Description

The Siemens 5UB1476 is the red variant in the DELTA profil title-block SCHUKO socket family — designated for emergency and standby power circuits. It is intentionally built without a status indicator: emergency circuits fed from generators or UPS systems are normally de-energized during standard operation, so a glow lamp would stay off under normal conditions and only light during an outage — exactly the wrong signal for maintenance staff expecting "on means OK."

Why no status indicator on the red socket?

This is a deliberate design choice, not an omission. The green (5UB1474) and orange (5UB1475) sockets serve continuously-energized safety circuits — their glow lamps provide useful live-status confirmation. The red socket serves emergency circuits that are only energized when the primary supply fails. A glow lamp that is off 99.9% of the time trains staff to ignore it, defeating its purpose. Removing it eliminates this ambiguity: the red color alone carries the safety signal.

Red in the VDE color hierarchy

Red socket outlets identify circuits backed by generators, UPS systems, or separate emergency power feeds. These differ from green SV circuits (continuously energized safety power for smoke control, fire alarm) and orange ZSV circuits (additional safety supply that survives main disconnect). Red is specifically for power that appears when the normal supply disappears — its defining characteristic is that it is normally off.

Labeling field for emergency power documentation

Emergency power circuits require rigorous documentation for compliance testing and annual inspection. The 5UB1476's integrated title block lets you insert the circuit reference, upstream transfer-switch designation, and generator feed ID directly into the socket face — so test records and physical labeling stay synchronized.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I add a status indicator to the 5UB1476?

No — the socket body is molded without the indicator aperture. If your application requires live-status indication on a red emergency socket, consider the 5UB1472 (white) or 5UB1475 (orange) with supplementary red frame identification.

Does this socket work on standard circuits?

Electrically, yes — 16A/250V, standard Type F SCHUKO. But installing a red socket on a general-purpose circuit violates VDE color-coding convention, creating a false safety signal. Red sockets must only be installed on documented emergency power circuits.
