The SAV 876.10 is a microprocessor-based electronic control unit designed for precision magnetization and demagnetization of electromagnetic and electro-permanent magnetic chucks — the workholding systems used on surface grinders, milling machines, and EDM equipment. Unlike simple on/off magnetic controllers, the 876.10 runs a PID closed-loop algorithm that regulates the polarity reversal cycle to achieve complete demagnetization with ±0.1% accuracy, preventing residual magnetism that would otherwise cause workpiece distortion or difficulty in part removal after machining.

How is holding force configured on the 876.10?

Two adjustment modes are provided. An 8-position encoder switch offers discrete holding force steps for repeatable setups across production batches. For applications requiring continuously variable force — thin-walled workpieces, hardened tool steels sensitive to magnetic deformation — a 0–10 VDC or 4–20 mA analog input allows external PLC or potentiometer control of the chuck's magnetic field strength in real time.

What protection features are built into the controller?

The unit incorporates triple protection: over-temperature shutdown (safeguarding chuck coils from thermal damage during extended high-force cycles), electronic overload protection (preventing coil insulation breakdown from excessive current draw), and short-circuit detection on the output stage. Standard models operate from -10°C to +45°C ambient; extended-temperature variants supporting -20°C to +80°C and Arctic-start versions rated to -40°C are available.
