Product Description
The OROS XPod Temperature is an 8-channel, dockable signal conditioning expander module designed to add thermocouple and RTD measurement capability to OROS Teamwork analyzers (OR35, OR36, OR38, and OR34). It converts raw sensor outputs into linearized, cold-junction-compensated parametric temperature data that is acquired synchronously with vibration, acoustic, and strain signals under a single NVGate test configuration.
Plug, Route, Acquire — An 8-Channel Conditioning Block
- Side-Mounted, Dockable Design: Each XPod is physically fixed to the lateral panel of the analyzer via a flat-pin connector—no external power supply, no separate enclosure, and no additional cabling beyond the sensor leads.
- Software-Routable Inputs: Each of the 8 universal BNC inputs associated with an XPod can be individually routed in NVGate software to either the standard BNC front-end or to the XPod conditioning path. This allows mixing dynamic sensors (accelerometers, microphones) and parametric sensors (thermocouples, RTDs) on the same physical input block.
- Multi-Module Capability: Multiple XPod Temperature units can be fitted to the same analyzer, scaling temperature channel count from 8 up to 32 or more on larger OR38 configurations.
Thermocouple & RTD Compatibility with Cold Junction Correction
- Full Thermocouple Support: Accepts J, K, N, E, and T type thermocouples covering cryogenic to high-temperature ranges (e.g., Type K: -200 °C to 1300 °C).
- RTD Compatibility: Direct connection of PT100 and PT1000 platinum resistance thermometers for precision laboratory and industrial temperature measurements.
- Automatic Cold Junction Compensation: Two internal temperature reference sensors are embedded in each XPod to measure the actual temperature at the connector interface. NVGate uses these readings to correct for thermocouple cold junction offset in real time, eliminating the need for external ice-point references or manual compensation tables.
- Integrated Linearization: Sensor non-linearity (e.g., the polynomial curve of a Type K thermocouple) is corrected onboard, outputting true engineering units (°C or °F) directly to the NVGate analysis stream.
System Expansion — Synchronize Temperature with Vibration & Strain
- Multi-Physics Data Fusion: Because temperature data passes through the same acquisition engine and clock as dynamic signals, users can correlate thermal drift with bearing vibration spectra, gear mesh frequencies, or structural resonance shifts—without post-processing time-alignment.
- One Configuration File: Both dynamic and parametric channels are set up in a single NVGate project. Temperature channels appear alongside accelerometer and microphone channels for unified triggering, recording, and real-time monitoring.
- Automated Reporting: NVGate macros can generate reports that combine RMS vibration trends, peak-hold spectra, and multi-channel temperature plots in the same document—saving hours of manual cross-referencing.
Made for the Test Track, the Lab, and the Field
- Rugged & Portable: The entire OR3X + XPod assembly is rated for mobile operation—shock and vibration-resistant, compact (approximately 2.9 kg for a 10-channel analyzer), and capable of running on battery power for field and in-vehicle testing.
- Panel/Chassis Mount: When used in stationary test cells or 19-inch rack systems, the XPod remains securely attached to the analyzer chassis via its standard mounting mechanism.
- Flat Pin Connector Standard: Sensor connections use industry-standard flat pin connectors, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of off-the-shelf thermocouple and RTD probes.
Typical Applications
- Powertrain thermal mapping and heat balance testing in automotive NVH labs
- Motor temperature-rise testing correlated with vibration and efficiency measurements
- Rotating machinery condition monitoring—simultaneous bearing vibration and bearing housing temperature trending
- Climate chamber and HVAC system temperature field characterization with synchronized acoustic data
- Structural dynamics tests requiring strain, temperature, and modal data in a single acquisition timeline
