Product Description
The OLC is MOTORTECH's reed switch float oil level controller designed for stationary gas engines and generator sets — maintaining lubricating oil at a precise level in the crankcase or an external expansion tank. Two main versions are available: a discrete float switch version with 2, 3, or 4 individually adjustable reed contacts for start/stop, pre-alarm, and main alarm functions; and an analog version with 25 evenly spaced reed contacts in a guide tube, delivering a continuous 4–20 mA or 0–10 V signal with 10 mm resolution across a 125 mm measuring range for integration with engine management systems such as MOTORTECH's ALL-IN-ONE controller.
How does reed switch float level detection work?
The OLC uses a magnetic float that slides on a guide tube as the oil level changes. Inside the guide tube, reed contacts are hermetically sealed — never in contact with oil. As the float magnet passes each reed contact position, the contact closes, providing a step-change signal (discrete version) or changing the total resistance in the measuring chain (analog version). The discrete version uses one-shot switches with defined hysteresis for unambiguous ON/OFF switching — no chatter, no intermediate states. The analog version's measuring transducer (12–32 VDC supply, metal housing with plug connector) converts the 625 Ω–8.5 kΩ resistance range to a 4–20 mA signal for continuous level monitoring.
How is the OLC installed and commissioned?
The OLC mounts via slotted holes for height adjustment and connects to the engine via two oil connections and two equalization connections with standard inch pipe threads. The sight glass (impact-resistant polycarbonate, sealed with Perbunan NBR) allows visual level verification. Cable lengths of 1.0 m or 4.0 m with PVC or PUR insulation are available. Float materials are resistant to all mineral and synthetic oils. ATEX, CSA, and UL certified variants are available for classified hazardous locations. MOTORTECH recommends the analog version with 4–20 mA output for applications requiring continuous level trending and proactive low-oil warnings via the engine control system.
