The BIAX SER 60 is an electric spindle control unit manufactured by Schmid & Wezel GmbH for permanent integration into industrial machine tools. It serves as the interface between the host machine controller and a BIAX electric micro grinder or precision spindle, allowing the CNC or PLC to operate the spindle as a fully integrated additional axis. This eliminates the need for a standalone drive cabinet or separate operator panel — the BIAX spindle is commanded directly through the existing machine control system.

How does the SER 60 integrate into a turning automat or machining centre?

The SER 60 control unit is mounted inside the machine tool's electrical cabinet and wired to the host controller via a dedicated electrical control line. Once installed, the BIAX industrial spindle — typically a micro grinder for deburring, polishing, or fine-machining operations — connects to the SER 60 and is operated through the machine's standard NC program. This architecture is designed for long and short turning automats as well as machining centres, where a secondary high-speed spindle expands the machine's capability for secondary finishing operations within the same clamping setup.
