Product Description
The 4B Braime IE-GuardFlex is the central control unit of the Distributed Hazard Monitoring Solution (DHMS), using industrial Ethernet to connect machine-mounted sensors via IE-Nodes in hazardous and safe areas. It performs controlled machine shutdown through direct MCC interface when belt slip, misalignment, bearing over-temperature, excessive vibration, or blocked chute conditions are detected — operating as a standalone safety layer independent of the plant PLC.
How does the distributed Ethernet architecture work?
The IE-GuardFlex connects to IE-Nodes distributed across the plant via CAT6 Ethernet cable through its four RJ45 ports. An automatic node discovery function initiated from the 7-inch touchscreen locates all connected IE-Nodes on the network — no manual IP configuration required. Each IE-Node accepts up to 16 sensors, and the system scales to 64 nodes totaling 1,024 monitored sensors across 100 defined machines. This distributed topology significantly reduces cabling compared to traditional centralized hardwired monitoring, as IE-Nodes are placed close to the sensors they serve.
How are alarm conditions configured and acted upon?
Each sensor can be assigned a 3-stage ALARM/STOP configuration with independently routed output relays. The three model variants provide escalating I/O capacity: the X4 base model (4 run signal inputs, common relays only), the X8 (8 inputs, 18 assignable relays), and the X16 (16 inputs, 36 assignable relays). Two fixed common ALARM and STOP relays (5 A at 20 VDC) provide global indication. Active alarm history, change log, and multi-user access control support audit trail requirements. Remote view and control is available over the Ethernet network.
What machinery and hazards does the system cover?
The IE-GuardFlex monitors bucket elevators (belt slip via SlipSwitch/Milli-Speed, misalignment via TouchSwitch/Bulldog), enclosed and open conveyors, chain conveyors, and roll stands. Bearing temperature monitoring uses ADB or Milli-Temp sensors, vibration via Milli-Vib, and blocked chute detection via Binswitch. The system adds a layer of redundancy by separating hazard monitoring from machine control — no PLC programming, SCADA tags, or plant disruption during implementation.
