Product Description
The BCS (BeamControlSystem) from Laser Mechanisms integrates a PRIMES FocusMonitor and CompactPowerMonitor into a single permanently installed, dust-proof enclosure for continuous laser beam diagnostics on industrial production lines. Unlike portable beam profilers that require line stoppage for measurement, the BCS remains in place for automated in-process monitoring with threshold-based alarm outputs.
How does in-line beam monitoring work?
The BCS is mounted permanently in the laser cell with the beam path entering through an electro-pneumatic shutter. During production pauses or between workpieces, the shutter opens and the system executes script-controlled automatic measuring sequences via PRIMES LaserDiagnoseSoftware. Measurements include focal position, focus diameter, Rayleigh length, beam parameter product, M², ellipticity, and astigmatism. An EVALUATION function compares each measurement against user-defined limits and triggers an alarm signal if any parameter drifts outside tolerance — enabling predictive maintenance before beam quality affects part quality.
Which power monitors are compatible?
The BCS accepts multiple CompactPowerMonitor (CPM) models depending on the laser power level: the CPM F-1 handles 100 W to 1.4 kW in confined cells, the CPM F-10 scales to 10 kW with a large flat absorber and low back-reflection, and the CPM F-20 reaches 20 kW with a 135 mm clear aperture for large raw beam diameters. For high power density applications up to 10 kW/cm², the CPM C-9 uses a conical reflector with cylindrical absorber. All CPMs are water-cooled and designed for continuous use with deionized water.
How does the system integrate with production controls?
The BCS communicates with the laser or plant controller via an SPS interface, with an optional Fieldbus module for direct PLC integration. The electro-pneumatic closing device seals the beam entry aperture when the system is in stand-by mode, protecting the optics from weld spatter, cutting debris, and shop dust — a critical feature for permanent installation in harsh industrial environments.
