Product Description
The Julabo PRESTO A30 is the most compact system in the PRESTO family of highly dynamic temperature control units, designed for external temperature control of jacketed reactor vessels, bench-top and pilot-plant chemical reactors, material stress-test chambers, and automotive component temperature simulation rigs. It circulates a silicone-based or fluorinated heat-transfer fluid through the reactor jacket, switching seamlessly between heating (2.7 kW) and active cooling (0.5 kW at +20 degrees C, 0.2 kW at -20 degrees C) to maintain the reactor contents at a temperature setpoint stable to ±0.01 degrees C. The hydraulically sealed system operates from -30 to +250 degrees C without fluid change — there is no open bath, no entrained water absorption from ambient humidity, and no oxidation of the heat-transfer fluid at elevated temperatures.
How does Intelligent Cascade Control (ICC) work?
Conventional PID temperature controllers tuned for one setpoint become sluggish or oscillatory when the setpoint changes — a reactor cooled to -20 degrees C for a crystallization step, then heated to +180 degrees C for a distillation step, presents the controller with fundamentally different thermal dynamics at each endpoint. ICC continuously monitors the temperature control loop's response and automatically re-tunes the PID coefficients as the process approaches each new setpoint. An integrated programmer stores eight programs of 60 segments each — ramp, soak, hold until condition, loop, and jump commands — enabling fully automated reaction temperature profiling without an external PC. A 3-point absolute temperature calibration routine compensates for sensor offset across the full operating range.
What safety features does it include for flammable fluids?
The PRESTO A30 carries DIN 12876-1 Classification III (FL), the highest safety category for electrically heated laboratory circulators — it is rated for use with flammable heat-transfer fluids (such as silicone oils with flash points above 100 degrees C) without additional safety precautions. An integrated Pt100 external sensor connection monitors the reactor or application temperature directly, independent of the circulator's internal control sensor, and triggers an overtemperature alarm and heater shutdown if the application exceeds a configurable safety limit. The 5.7-inch color TFT touchscreen provides three user access levels with password management, enabling the lab supervisor to lock high-temperature limits and calibration parameters while leaving day-to-day setpoint changes accessible to operators. A stand-by input, alarm output, USB host and device ports, Ethernet, RS232, and an SD card slot are standard; optional RS485, Profibus DP, and Modbus interfaces are available for integration with plant-wide distributed control and data acquisition systems.
