Why put the machine past the work, not the work past the machine?

Because at 6 metres and beyond, moving the part means cranes, re-clamping and lost datum. SPIRIT 100 travels past large welded frames, generator components and hull sections while the workpiece stays put, which is how shipyard and energy shops keep one setup through facing, drilling and angular operations. The TUPC automatic universal head positions continuously at any tool-axis angle, and the automatic head changer swaps between the FPT head catalogue - TU144, TUDD-HT, TTWO, TABR and more - so the operation, not the crane operator, sets the pace.

Universal head or fixed head for shipbuilding plates?

Fixed heads cut faster per kilowatt; universal heads delete the setup between operations. On shipbuilding and energy frames, the mix of facing, heavy drilling and angled features usually pays back the TUPC positioning flexibility many times over.
