The VERTIGO is FPT Industrie's large vertical turning lathe, scaled from the company's hydrostatic boring machines. Every axis runs on a hydrostatic oil film, and the table rides a hydrostatic thrust bearing with active preload that holds geometry as the load changes.

Why a hydrostatic table for very large parts?

A rolling-element table on a 100-tonne workpiece carries point loads that flex and wear where the weight sits. The VERTIGO's table floats on a film of oil, so the ring spins at 60 rpm with no metal contact — vibration damped, runout held, and the table never wears a groove under the load.
