The SMS ACCU-CELL is a modular, double-spindle vertical turning center from FFG, built on a heavily ribbed welded-steel column with preloaded roller guides. Its SMS spindle delivers high torque and axial load at up to 4,000 rpm for fine machining and hard turning.

Why turn a heavy blank vertically with two spindles?

A large gear ring or brake disc is awkward in a horizontal chuck and flexes under its own weight. The ACCU-CELL sets the blank face-up, gravity seats it, and twin spindles machine both faces in parallel — so a quenched ring is hard-turned on both sides in one clamping, on a machine sized for the part rather than the part being squeezed into a lathe.

Against a horizontal twin-spindle lathe, the vertical layout lets the part's weight do the clamping — the difference on a large, thin blank that a horizontal chuck would distort.
