The LA series is Toyoda's modular turning center, spanning the LA-200 standard model through the long-bed LA-200L and the milling-capable LA-200M and LA-200ML. Every model runs a gear-driven spindle on box guideways, with optional live tooling for mill-turn work.

Why a gear-box spindle and box ways for heavy cuts?

A belt-drive spindle slips a little on every deep pass and a linear guide flexes under interrupted cuts, which shows up as chatter and taper. The LA series' gear-driven spindle keeps torque at the low end and its box ways damp the vibration, so a 320 mm part is roughed and finished in one setup — the stiffness a belt-and-linear-guide lathe trades away for speed.
