Why pair two turrets with two spindles?

A single turret can only cut with one tool at a time, so the spindle idles while the turret indexes. The MX-800's twin turrets work both spindles at once — one roughs while the other finishes, or the back side is milled while the front is turned — which is what cuts a complex part's cycle time to what a single-turret lathe cannot reach.

The Toyoda MX-800 is a multi-tasking turning center with twin spindles and twin turrets, built on linear guideways with built-in motor spindles, turning 310 mm and 250 mm long with an 8-inch chuck.
