The Eltex ACT-R 630 (Automatic Control of Tension for Rapier machines) is a stand-alone closed-loop weft yarn tension control system. It maintains constant yarn tension regardless of bobbin fullness — from full package to near-empty — compensating automatically for tension variations caused by yarn package irregularities. The system installs after the prewinder on any rapier weaving machine and operates independently, requiring no communication link with the host machine.

System Components and Operation

The ACT-R 630 comprises three main elements: the ETM Solo tension monitor sensor that measures running yarn tension in real time, a central control unit with push-button interface and dual display showing reference (set) tension versus actual tension, and a smart-design electromagnetic brake that applies controlled braking force to the yarn. The closed-loop algorithm continuously compares actual tension against the set point and adjusts the brake accordingly. The brake design prioritises low maintenance and easy cleaning — important in textile production environments with airborne fibre and dust.

Yarn Versatility

A key advantage of the ACT-R 630 is its ability to handle all yarn types uniformly. It performs reliably with standard spun and filament yarns, difficult technical yarns used in industrial textiles, and recycled yarns — which often exhibit higher tension variability due to irregular fibre distribution. The system can be installed on a single weft yarn or on multiple positions, with each unit operating independently.
