Most 2.8mm Faston terminals use 0.5mm thick metal. The QUADRIOS 1908C180 uses 0.8mm thickness – a heavier-duty version for applications that demand higher current carrying capacity or greater mechanical retention. The thicker tab provides a tighter fit inside the receptacle and reduces resistance at the contact point.

When to Choose the 0.8mm Thickness

The 0.8mm thickness, sometimes referred to as "heavy-duty" or "extra-strength" Faston, is preferred in environments where vibration is a concern or where the connector will be mated and unmated frequently. The thicker material resists deformation and maintains consistent contact pressure over many cycles. This makes it ideal for automotive engine compartments, power supply units, industrial control panels with frequent maintenance access, and appliance applications where the connector may be subjected to mechanical stress.

Installation and Compatibility

Crimp the terminal onto stripped 0.5-1.0 mm² wire using a suitable crimping tool. The thicker tab requires slightly more crimping force but is compatible with standard Faston-style crimp dies. The transparent insulating sleeves provide protection against accidental shorts while allowing visual inspection of the crimp.

Compatibility note: 2.8x0.8mm receptacles are fully compatible with 2.8x0.5mm tabs, but 2.8x0.5mm receptacles should not be used on 0.8mm tabs as the fit may be too tight and could damage the receptacle.
