Product Description
The FESTO VYKA Series is a media-separated 3/2 solenoid valve purpose-built for precise dosing, aspirating, and continuous microfluidic control of aggressive liquids and gases. A separating diaphragm made from high-performance elastomer (FKM, EPDM, or FFKM) isolates the fluid path from the solenoid actuator, preventing corrosion and ensuring media purity — critical in laboratory automation, medical device manufacturing, and chemical handling applications.
How Does the VYKA Series Achieve Media Separation?
The VYKA uses a rocker valve mechanism with a soft-sealing diaphragm that hermetically isolates the fluid chamber from the electromagnetic drive. The wetted flow path is constructed entirely from PEEK and reinforced PPA, with the diaphragm available in three material grades: FKM for general chemical resistance, EPDM for aqueous media and hot water, and FFKM (perfluoroelastomer) for highly aggressive solvents and acids. The internal fluid volume is just 16 µl, minimising dead volume for precise micro-dosing.
What Are the Electrical Integration and Control Options?
The VYKA operates on 12–26V DC via a 2-pin Q7 pattern socket, drawing 3.5W during the 60ms high-current switching phase and dropping to 0.3W hold power when paired with the VAVE-K1 electronic connecting box. This holding current reduction enables 100% duty cycle operation without overheating. Switching response is approximately 5ms, supporting a maximum frequency of 6Hz at continuous duty. The valve mounts via through-holes for M2 screws and weighs just 10.9g, allowing dense multi-valve arrays in space-constrained fluidic instruments.
Frequently Asked Questions
When should FFKM be chosen over FKM or EPDM for the diaphragm?
FFKM (perfluoroelastomer) offers near-universal chemical resistance and should be specified when the VYKA will contact aggressive organic solvents, strong acids, or oxidising media that would degrade FKM or EPDM. FKM provides excellent general chemical resistance at lower cost, while EPDM is preferred for hot water, steam, and polar solvents. All three diaphragm grades are FDA-listed materials.
Can the VYKA handle positive pressure as well as vacuum?
Yes. The common (COM) port accepts -0.25 to +2 bar, allowing the VYKA to operate under mild vacuum for aspirating applications as well as low positive pressure for dispensing. The NC and NO ports are rated for -0.5 to +1 bar.
