Product Description

The CSV is a miniature cartridge solenoid valve designed for high-flow pneumatic switching in tightly constrained spaces — medical devices, portable analyzers, and lab automation where every gram and cubic centimeter counts. At 11 grams for the 10 mm body and 19.5 grams for the 12 mm, it is among the lightest direct-acting solenoid valves in its flow class.

How does the pressure-balanced poppet enable high flow from a small package?

In a conventional miniature solenoid, the poppet face sees the full line pressure, so opening force must overcome both the spring and the pressure load. The CSV's pressure-balanced poppet routes media pressure to both sides of the sealing element, cancelling the pressure-induced force. The solenoid only needs to overcome the return spring — which lets a 5 W coil achieve 125 SLPM at 30 PSI, a flow-to-power ratio that typically requires a larger, hungrier solenoid. It also means the valve operates reliably from vacuum, where there is no pressure differential to assist sealing.

What configurations are available?

The CSV can be ordered as a 2-way or 3-way valve, normally closed or normally open, and additionally as a diverter or selector. Two pin orientations — perpendicular or axial square pins (0.025″) — give designers flexibility in PCB mounting. Standard coil voltages are 12 V DC and 24 V DC, both rated at 5 W. NBR seals are standard for air and inert gas; FKM is available for elevated temperatures and aggressive media. The cartridge body can be press-fit into custom manifolds or mounted in Humphrey's standard sub-bases, making it adaptable to OEM fluidic architectures rather than forcing the architecture around the valve.

What makes it suitable for medical and analytical applications?

Response time is 9 ms energizing and 6 ms de-energizing — fast enough for precision gas dosing and breath-by-breath analysis. Operation is inherently quiet, a requirement for patient-facing devices. Wetted materials (acetal, LCP, stainless steel, NBR or FKM) are selected for oxygen compatibility and low extractables. The valve is RoHS and REACH compliant and manufactured in the United States.
