The SLS-500-CAN-R is the base module of HIQUEL's SLS-500 modular PLC system — a DIN-rail-mounted controller combining 8 digital inputs, 6 relay outputs, and multi-protocol communication in a single unit. It anchors distributed automation networks where CAN bus handles peer-to-peer device communication while RS485 extends I/O across up to 600 m of field wiring.

How is the SLS-500-CAN-R programmed?

Programming uses the SLS-500 Configurator, a graphical tool that runs as a Microsoft PowerPoint add-in — no separate IDE installation required. The controller provides 48 kB of user program memory with built-in timers, counters, a real-time clock with calendar, and analog/text processing functions. The RS232 port handles program download and monitoring.

How many expansion modules can one base support?

The RS485 port addresses up to 32 SLS-500-I/O expansion modules on a single bus up to 600 m in length. This allows a single SLS-500-CAN-R to scale from a handful of I/O points to a multi-cabinet distributed control system without adding a fieldbus coupler.

What dual-function capability do inputs I1–I4 provide?

Inputs 1 through 4 can operate as standard 24 VDC digital inputs or as 0–10 V analog inputs — configurable per channel in software. This eliminates external signal converters when mixing discrete sensors (limit switches, floats) with analog transmitters (level, temperature, pressure) on the same base module.
