Product Description
The Lasermet Safety Logic Plus is a deliberate departure from the modern safety PLC. In an age where software and processors dominate, the Safety Logic Plus (SLP) stands as a testament to the enduring reliability of hard-wired, fail-safe logic. It is a box programmable logic controller in form, but its function is entirely unique: to provide complex safety interlock logic for laser and industrial applications without a single line of code, processor, or operating system. By eliminating these elements, it effectively eradicates the obsolescence that plagues software-based systems, offering a 30-year-plus life expectancy and a level of maintainability that is rare in today's automation landscape.

The SLP system operates on the fundamental principles of electrical engineering. Its core consists of a series of internal relay-based logic modules (AND/OR gates) that are physically interconnected using jumper leads. This hard-wired configuration, designed by a competent engineer, carries out all the required safety logic functions. The system is built on a rigorous dual-channel, fully cross-checked architecture. Every circuit, every module, is continuously monitored. If any component fails or an input is missing, the system defaults to a safe state and will not arm the laser. This design philosophy allows the SLP to achieve the highest levels of safety integrity, certified to Performance Level e (PLe) according to EN ISO 13849-1, which is equivalent to SIL 3.
Designed for simplicity and transparency, the SLP is a system built for electricians, not programmers. Installation involves running individual cables from each safety interlock switch (door contacts, emergency stops, etc.) back to the SLP's single enclosure. Logic changes can be implemented directly within this same enclosure by reconfiguring the jumper connections, without the need for software tools or specialized training. Diagnostics are equally straightforward: each logic module is equipped with its own LED indicator, allowing maintenance personnel to visually trace the logic state and quickly pinpoint faults. This transparent, hardware-based approach drastically reduces installation time, simplifies testing, and lowers long-term maintenance costs compared to complex PLC-based interlock systems.
The Safety Logic Plus does not operate in isolation. It functions as the logic brain within a broader Lasermet safety ecosystem. It receives and processes all inputs from the facility's interlock switches, and then communicates the final "all safe" condition to a Lasermet Interlock® Controller (such as the ICS-6, ICS-7, or ICS-9). Only when the SLP confirms that all preconditions are met does it permit the Interlock Controller to arm the laser. This division of labor—with the SLP handling complex logic and the Interlock Controller managing the laser interface—creates a robust, modular, and highly reliable safety solution for the most demanding laser environments.
