The SCHMERSAL AES 1102 series is a safety-monitoring module specifically engineered for integration with the BNS range of magnetic safety sensors. It serves as the critical interface between non-contact safety switches and the machine's safety-related control system, providing reliable monitoring of guard doors and protective equipment. The module is designed with a triple redundant structure, meaning that the safety function is maintained even after the occurrence of two independent faults—only a third fault could potentially lead to a hazardous situation. This architecture ensures that the requirements for fault tolerance according to EN 60947-5-3 are fully met, providing exceptional reliability for safety-critical applications.
From a safety classification perspective, the AES 1102 achieves Performance Level c (PL c) and Category 1 according to EN ISO 13849-1, and is suitable for applications up to Safety Integrity Level 1 (SIL 1) according to EN IEC 61508. The module provides one safety contact with STOP Category 0 functionality, meaning immediate removal of power to the hazardous motion.
