Product Description

The MPAF/4 from OMIL is a pneumatically actuated 4-jaw turning chuck designed for automated lathe workholding where fast clamp/unclamp cycles and consistent gripping force are required. The through-hole configuration supports bar-fed and shaft-type workpieces, making it suitable for both batch production and single-part turning.

What does pneumatic actuation bring to a turning chuck?

Pneumatic chucks replace the manual scroll-key operation with compressed-air-driven jaw movement. This enables remote foot-pedal or CNC-programmed actuation — the operator or control system commands clamp and unclamp without touching the chuck. The result is faster part changeover, reduced operator fatigue, and repeatable clamping force independent of operator technique. The trade-off compared to hydraulic power chucks is a lower maximum clamping force for a given chuck diameter, making pneumatic chucks better suited to light- to medium-duty turning rather than heavy interrupted cuts.

About OMIL

OMIL S.R.L., based in Settimo Torinese near Turin, Italy, has specialized in gripping and workholding systems since 1963. The company offers a range of stationary chucks, parallel grippers, rotary actuators, and linear slides for machining and automation applications — positioning as a cost-competitive alternative to larger German and Japanese workholding suppliers.
