The inclined RJ jack aims the plug downward at roughly 45 degrees, so the cable runs flat against the wall instead of jutting straight out into the room. A small detail that matters when the socket is at desk height or in a corridor where a protruding plug gets snagged.

Angled vs. straight outlet: when does it matter?

The angled outlet solves two practical problems. First, in narrow corridors or behind furniture, a straight RJ45 plug can extend 35–40mm from the wall — enough to conflict with a desk pushed against it or to catch a passing shoulder. The angled outlet reduces that protrusion to near-zero by redirecting the cable along the wall plane. Second, the downward angle creates a natural drip loop, reducing the chance that a spilled drink on a desk above the socket runs down the cable into the jack.

1-port vs. 2-port (5TG2406): how to decide?

If the location needs only a single telecom drop — a fax machine, a single ISDN terminal, an elevator phone — the 1-port insert is all you need. A 1-port insert also leaves the second slot in a dual module carrier free for a non-telecom function. If the location needs two separate lines (phone + DSL, or two independent phone lines), use the 2-port 5TG2406. Two single-port inserts cost more and consume both module-carrier slots.

Cat 3 limitations

16MHz bandwidth, suitable for analog telephony, ISDN (BRI/PRI), ADSL/VDSL, and 10BASE-T Ethernet only. Not for 100BASE-TX or faster. If you are pulling new cable to this location, install Cat 6E or Cat 6A junction boxes instead — Cat 3 is for matching existing Cat 3 infrastructure.
