Why two ports in one wall box?

The most common scenario is splitting office LAN and building-automation traffic at the wall: port 1 carries the corporate network, port 2 connects to a physically separate BAS/BMS VLAN. Other use cases include redundant Ethernet links to a critical workstation, a phone-plus-PC combo at a single desk position, or a primary-plus-spare configuration where one cable is a pre-installed backup. The alternative — two single inserts in a dual module carrier — costs more and consumes a second module slot that could hold a different function (antenna socket, loudspeaker terminal, etc.).

Does the shielding cover both ports or are they individually shielded?

The metal housing provides a common shield for both ports. Each RJ45 jack has its own internal shielding cage connecting to the housing. Both ports share the same ground reference via the LSA-Plus earthing terminal — important to bond this to the building's equipotential bus if the two cables serve different floors or buildings with different ground potentials.

How does this compare to installing two single-port 5TG2026-1 inserts?

Electrically identical — both are Cat 6E, shielded, LSA-Plus. Mechanically, the dual-port insert leaves the second slot in the module carrier free for another function (TV, speaker, blank). The single-port route gives more flexibility to mix functions later, but costs more and uses more module-carrier real estate. If you know both drops are Ethernet and both go to the same wall location, the dual-port insert is the simpler install.
