Product Description
The Autonics KPN series is a 1/4 DIN (96×96 mm) compact process and temperature controller distinguished by its 50 ms ultra-fast sampling rate and shallow 60 mm rear depth — approximately 38% shorter than previous-generation Autonics controllers. Universal input capability allows a single KPN unit to work with thermocouples spanning from Type K to PL-II, RTDs, and standard analog process signals (0–10 VDC, 0–20/4–20 mA, mV DC), reducing the variety of controller models a maintenance department needs to stock.
What control flexibility does the KPN series offer?
Independent heating and cooling PID loops can run simultaneously with individually tuned parameters — essential for extrusion, thermoforming, and environmental chamber applications where both a heater and a cooling valve or fan must be coordinated. The bar-graph display for manipulated variable (MV) output gives operators an instant visual reference of control effort without entering a configuration menu. Four multi-SV presets are selectable via a digital input terminal, enabling recipe-based setpoint switching for multi-product production lines. An optional CT (current transformer) input enables heater break alarm detection, alerting operators to open heater circuits before they cause a batch rejection.
How does Modbus RTU integration work?
The built-in RS485 port with Modbus RTU protocol supports up to 31 controllers on a single multi-drop bus at distances up to 800 meters. Autonics' free DAQMaster software provides centralized parameter configuration, data logging, and trend monitoring via USB or RS485. Optional communication converters — SCM-US (USB to Serial), SCM-US48I (USB to RS485), SCM-38I (RS232C to RS485), and SCM-WF48 (Wi-Fi to RS485/USB) — adapt the KPN to a wide range of PC and network topologies.
