Product Description
The PAS (Pedestrian Alert System) is an RFID-based safety solution designed to prevent collisions between forklifts and pedestrians in warehouses, loading docks, and shared-traffic industrial environments. Pedestrians carry compact T-10 or T-10R active RFID tags, while the AC-50 activator unit — mounted on the forklift — generates a low-frequency detection field around the vehicle. When a tagged pedestrian enters this zone, the system triggers visual and audible alerts to warn the driver instantly, even when the pedestrian is obscured behind shelving, walls, or blind corners.
How does the PAS detection zone work?
The AC-50 activator emits a 125 kHz LF field via front and rear antennas, creating an adjustable detection envelope of 1 to 6.5 meters around the forklift. The range is configured during installation to match the specific workspace layout — shorter zones for narrow aisles, longer zones for open areas. Side detection extends up to 4 meters. The system responds within 400 ms of a tag entering the field, providing the driver with sufficient reaction time at typical warehouse speeds of 6 to 8 km/h. A driver inhibitor tag mounted in the cabin prevents the system from triggering on the driver's own tag, ensuring alerts are triggered only by external pedestrians.
What distinguishes PAS from simpler proximity warning systems?
Unlike ultrasonic or infrared sensors that detect any physical object, the PAS actively identifies RFID-tagged individuals — distinguishing pedestrians from pallets, racks, and other inanimate obstacles. This RFID discrimination eliminates the false alarms that plague generic proximity sensors in busy warehouse environments. Additionally, the LF signal penetrates solid obstacles such as racking and partition walls, so the system alerts the driver to a pedestrian approaching around a corner before visual contact is made — providing a critical extra reaction window in blind-spot situations.
How does PAS integrate with broader warehouse safety infrastructure?
The PAS functions as a standalone system but integrates with other Claitec safety solutions for layered protection. It can be combined with the VAS (Visual Alert System) to project ground-level warning signals, the LSA (Low Speed Area) system to automatically limit forklift speed in pedestrian zones, and the TCS (Traffic Control System) to manage crossings with traffic lights. For comprehensive coverage, the PAS also interfaces with the PSG (Pedestrian Safety Gate) at controlled access points, creating a multi-layered safety architecture from vehicle-level detection to facility-level access management.
