Product Description
The Desin Instruments FMC series brings PID process control directly to the point of measurement. Housed in an IP65-rated field enclosure, these controllers install at the process without a separate protection box — saving panel space, reducing wiring, and keeping the operator interface where adjustments are actually made. Each model includes PID auto-tuning, Fuzzy Logic adaptive control, and RS-485 Modbus RTU communication for integration with SCADA and DCS platforms via the Proasis DCS-Win supervisory software.
How does field-mount installation change process control?
Traditional panel-mount PID controllers require a separate enclosure, home-run sensor wiring, and trips between the control room and the process during commissioning. The FMC flips this model: the controller lives at the measurement point, with the LED display and backlit keypad accessible right where the sensor is. For chemical dosing skids, small treatment plants, or distributed HVAC loops, this eliminates the control panel as a separate line item. A single RS-485 Modbus cable carries all process data and setpoint commands back to the central system.
What input and output configurations are available?
The FMC series spans three models to match different levels of process complexity. The FMC-2000 handles single-loop control with one universal input (Pt100, thermocouple, mV, or 4–20 mA), one analog output, and two or three relay outputs. The FMC-4000 adds a second universal input and second analog output for cascade, ratio, or differential control. The FMC-5000 supports up to three inputs with four relay outputs for multi-variable processes. Chemical variable (VQ) variants add direct electrode inputs for pH, ORP, conductivity, dissolved oxygen, and turbidity with automatic temperature compensation on the 4000 and 5000 models.
How does Fuzzy Logic improve PID control?
In processes with long dead times or non-linear behavior — heating large thermal masses, pH neutralization, batch reactors — standard PID tuning is a compromise between fast response and stability. The FMC's Fuzzy Logic layer monitors the process reaction after each control move and adapts the PID constants in real time. On start-up, the auto-tuning routine excites the process, identifies the loop dynamics, and loads the initial PID parameters. Fuzzy Logic then refines them continuously, reducing overshoot after setpoint changes and tightening regulation during steady-state operation.
