Product Description
The REMBE EXKOP Express is the central control unit for REMBE's explosion isolation system, designed to detect an incipient explosion and activate connected isolation valves — QV II, QV III, Q-Bic, RSV, and REDEX Slide — within milliseconds to prevent flame and pressure propagation through interconnected pipework. Installed outside the hazardous area in a sheet-steel enclosure, the EXKOP Express continuously monitors all connected detectors, isolation devices, and its own internal electronics through self-diagnostic routines.
How does the EXKOP Express trigger isolation in an explosion event?
The controller accepts trigger signals from a range of detection devices: REMBE Q-Rohr signalling units, explosion vents with integrated signalling, pressure sensors, infrared flame detectors, and spark detectors. Upon receiving a valid trigger, the EXKOP Express simultaneously activates all assigned isolation valves — quench valves close within milliseconds, while slide valves (RSV, REDEX Slide) and flameless devices (Q-Bic) deploy according to their mechanical response characteristics. All isolation devices are fail-safe: they close automatically on loss of power or compressed air, ensuring the protected equipment is isolated even during a utility failure. After an event, the controller logs the incident and the system can be reset at the push of a button, provided the mechanical isolation devices are re-armed.
What diagnostic and communication capabilities does the controller offer?
The EXKOP Express records up to 100,000 events with timestamping, providing a complete operational history for safety audits and incident investigation. Potential-free relay contacts — scalable from 4 to 64 depending on system size — transmit alarm, fault, and maintenance status to the plant PLC or DCS. Optional features include a touch panel HMI for local visualization, remote access via modem or Ethernet, and integration with the REMBE iQ Safety Cockpit for centralized monitoring of multiple EXKOP controllers across a plant. The controller is rated IP54 as standard, with an IP65 TriCon variant available for harsh industrial environments.
Which isolation devices does the EXKOP Express control?
| Valve | Type | Pipe Diameter | Key Characteristic |
|---|---|---|---|
| EXKOP QV II | Quench Valve | DN 80–DN 250 | Bidirectional, space-saving design |
| EXKOP QV III | Quench Valve | DN 300–DN 600 | Large-diameter pipelines |
| Q-Bic | Flameless Isolation | Application-specific | No external flame ejection |
| RSV / REDEX Slide | Explosion Slide Valve | Application-specific | Mechanical barrier, nominal pressure ≥10 bar |
All controlled valves are ATEX and EN 15089 certified, rated for dust explosions up to KST 300 bar·m/s, and feature EN 1092-1 PN 10 flanges as standard.
