The Emerson PACSystems RSTi-EP CPE240 (ordering code EPXCPE240) is the top-of-line model in the CPE200 series of compact IIoT programmable automation controllers. It runs the same PACSystems runtime engine and toolchain as the full-size RX3i — ladder diagram, function block, structured text, and C — but packages it in a DIN-rail-mountable form factor with 4MB of battery-less non-volatile user memory, the largest in the CPE200 family.

What sets the CPE240 apart within the CPE200 series?

Three upgrades define the CPE240 over the mid-range CPE215/220. Memory doubles to 4MB — enough for the largest machine control programs with extensive recipe handling and data logging. Local I/O capacity expands to 64 RSTi-EP slice modules, enabling complex multi-station machines without remote I/O drops. And three Gigabit Ethernet ports — one on LAN1 plus two switched ports on LAN2 — provide the embedded PROFINET controller with dedicated bandwidth while maintaining a separate plant-network connection.

Like all CPE200 controllers, the CPE240 speaks SRTP Client/Server, Modbus TCP Client/Server, OPC UA Secure server, EGD Class 1, and PROFINET controller (on LAN2). It adds DNP3 outstation capability — shared with the CPE215 and CPE220 — for integration with electric utility and water SCADA systems. Achilles Level 2 certification validates its resilience against network denial-of-service attacks, while Secure Boot, TPM-based hardware security, and ACL-based firewall protect the controller from unauthorized access. Firmware updates deploy via encrypted web transfer or USB stick.
