How does the bus tie synchronising work?

The DSE8680 continuously monitors voltage and frequency on both sides of the bus-tie breaker via true RMS sensing at 40 kHz sampling rate (15–333 V AC L-N, 3.5–75 Hz range). When a close or open command is issued, the module verifies synchronising conditions — voltage match, frequency match, and phase angle alignment — before issuing the breaker control signal. Two volt-free relay outputs (Outputs C & D, rated 8 A at 250 V AC) directly drive the bus-tie breaker close/open coils, while six auxiliary DC outputs handle status indication and interlocking.

What communication and configuration options are available?

All communication ports operate simultaneously: two RS485 ports (Modbus RTU), one RS232, and one Ethernet port (Modbus TCP). A USB-B port connects to DSE Configuration Suite PC software for parameter setup and PLC editor programming, while a USB-A port supports data logging to a USB memory stick (up to 16 GB). The integrated PLC editor allows custom logic programming without external hardware. An event log stores 250 timestamped entries, and SMS messaging capability provides remote alarm notification via compatible modem.

What system configurations are supported?

Up to two DSE8680 modules can coexist on a single system, each managing its own bus-tie breaker position. A single MSC link supports up to 14 DSE8x60-series generator controllers plus one DSE8680 (16 devices total). The module is compatible with DSE55xx, DSE75xx, and DSE86xx series controllers, allowing phased system upgrades without replacing existing hardware. Power consumption is 150 mA at 12 V (operating) and 50 mA at 12 V (standby), with cranking dropout survival to 0 V for 50 ms.
