The Zander ZX09 series is a family of high-speed programmable logic controllers that fundamentally depart from the traditional, cycle-based scan of conventional PLCs. Built on a "cycle-free" architecture, the ZX09 processes input signals in true parallel fashion and executes logic functions in real-time. This design philosophy eliminates the inherent latency and jitter associated with cyclic program execution, enabling the ZX09 to achieve astonishing response times of less than 20 nanoseconds and handle input frequencies up to 500 kHz. This performance makes it uniquely suited for ultra-fast control applications, such as precise registration control in high-speed packaging, electronic cam profiling for cutting and gluing stations, and other demanding industrial automation tasks where every microsecond counts.

The ZX09 series is not a single device but a modular platform available in several variants to match specific I/O requirements. The base model provides ten high-speed digital inputs and four digital transistor outputs. The ZX09A model expands upon this by adding one analog input (configurable for 0-10V or 0-20mA with 12-bit resolution), two RS485 interfaces, and up to two SSI interfaces for direct connection of encoders and high-resolution distance sensors. The flagship ZX09E model further enhances analog capabilities with six analog inputs, dual RS485 ports, and the proprietary ZanderLink high-speed protocol, which enables controller-to-controller communication with reaction times under 10 microseconds. Connectivity is a core strength of the ZX09 platform. Every controller features an Ethernet port (10/100Base-T) that serves as the interface for programming, configuration, and network communication. The controller can be integrated as a Modbus/TCP slave (server) into standard industrial networks, allowing supervisory SCADA or HMI systems to monitor and exchange data. For more advanced peer-to-peer communication, the ZX09E model supports ZanderLink, a dedicated protocol that facilitates deterministic, high-speed data exchange between multiple Zander controllers on the same network. The controller can be used both as a stand-alone unit and as a decentralized node within a larger automation network, providing maximum flexibility for system architects.

Programming the ZX09 is accomplished via the EX_PRESS 5 software suite, a dedicated Windows-based development environment. The programming language is Structured Text (ST), conforming to the international IEC 61131-3 standard. This ensures that control engineers can leverage a familiar, high-level language to develop complex algorithms without needing to learn a proprietary instruction set. The finished program is downloaded to the controller via the Ethernet interface, and a comprehensive programming manual is included with the software package. The controller is powered by a 24V DC supply and housed in a compact DIN-rail mountable enclosure measuring 108 x 90 x 63 mm.
