The Siemens 5TG2485 is a DELTA i-system IEC antenna stub socket (Stichleitungsdose) — a single tap-off point for 75Ω coaxial distribution. Unlike the feed-through 5TG2484 which has both input and output ports, this is a single-ended outlet with one IEC socket on the front and one IEC plug on the rear. It is designed as the final connection point in a star-wired antenna system where each room outlet has its own dedicated cable run back to a central splitter or multiswitch.
When do I choose a stub socket over a feed-through?
The decision is dictated by your building's antenna cabling topology, not by the socket itself. In a star-wired layout, each room outlet gets a dedicated coaxial home run from a central distribution point (splitter, tap, or multiswitch). Each outlet is the end of its own line — no signal passes through to the next room. You need a stub socket (5TG2485) for every outlet in this topology. In a daisy-chain layout, the antenna cable enters the first socket, passes through, and continues to the next socket in the next room — only the final socket terminates the line. For the intermediate sockets, use the feed-through 5TG2484; for the final socket, use the 5TG2484 with its terminator installed. Modern installations overwhelmingly favor star wiring — it isolates faults to a single outlet and avoids the cumulative signal loss of daisy-chaining. If your building was wired after roughly 2005, assume star and use 5TG2485.
Does a stub socket need a terminating resistor?
No — a stub socket in a star-wired system does not need a user-installed terminator. The termination happens at the distribution amplifier or multiswitch upstream: each output port on the splitter presents the correct 75Ω impedance. The socket itself is electrically transparent. This is a practical advantage of star wiring — you do not need to remember which socket is the last one in the chain and whether the terminator is installed.
