Product Description

The Power H Mini is a compact full H-bridge DC motor driver from SAM Controllers, based on the STMicroelectronics VNH7100AS automotive-grade monolithic driver IC. Measuring just 15×20 mm, it delivers bidirectional 4-quadrant drive at up to 12A peak across a 4-28VDC motor supply range with PWM frequencies up to 20kHz — making it suitable for robotics, automation, and small electric vehicle actuators.

What protection and diagnostic features does it include?

The VNH7100AS IC integrates undervoltage lockout, overvoltage clamp, thermal shutdown, and output protection against both short-to-ground and short-to-VCC faults. The MultiSense pin provides a multiplexed analog output for real-time motor current feedback and fault condition reporting — a single ADC channel on the host microcontroller can monitor both drive current and diagnostic status simultaneously.

How does it compare to traditional H-bridge modules?

With extremely low on-resistance from the monolithic VNH7100AS, the Power H Mini generates minimal heat compared to legacy L298 or BTS7960 modules — for most applications up to 5A continuous, no heatsink is required. Energy recuperation during motor braking returns kinetic energy to the supply rail, enabling steeper deceleration curves for high-dynamics robotics. The pinout is mechanically compatible with A4988 and DRV8825 stepper driver sockets, simplifying retrofit into existing 3D printer and CNC controller boards.
