The Beacon 110 is RKI Instruments' single-channel fixed-system gas detection controller, built into a NEMA 4X-rated polycarbonate/fiberglass wall-mount enclosure suitable for both indoor and outdoor installation. Unlike multi-channel rack-mount systems, the Beacon 110 is a self-contained unit — power supply, display, relays, and audible alarm are all integrated behind a lockable hinged cover — making it a practical choice for standalone monitoring of a single gas hazard point.

What gas sensors can the Beacon 110 accept?

The controller accepts two input types. RKI direct-wired sensors — for combustibles (0–100% LEL), oxygen (0–25%), carbon monoxide (0–300 ppm), hydrogen sulfide (0–100 ppm), and a broad range of toxic gases — connect without a remote amplifier for cable runs up to 500 ft (152 m). Any industry-standard 2- or 3-wire 4–20 mA transmitter can also be connected, with wiring distances up to 8,000 ft (2,438 m), allowing the Beacon 110 to integrate with existing plant sensor infrastructure.

How do the relays and alarm outputs work?

Three isolated SPDT relays rated at 10 A / 115 VAC are provided: two fully programmable for gas alarm levels (increasing/decreasing, latching/self-reset, energized/de-energized, time delay), and one dedicated to fail/trouble conditions. The relays are strong enough to drive external horns and strobes directly without intermediate contactors. A built-in 94 dB buzzer provides coded audible indication — pulsing for gas alarm, steady tone for system fault — and a front-panel pushbutton allows alarm reset from outside the enclosure without opening the door. A proportional 4–20 mA analog output is available for connection to plant PLC, DCS, or chart recorders.
