Product Description

The IPS DVx-POL series is a pneumatically-operated polypropylene drain valve designed for automated draining and filling of process tanks containing corrosive or high-purity fluids. The defining feature is an all non-metallic wetted surface — every component in contact with the process media is polypropylene with the selected elastomer O-ring — eliminating metallic contamination risks for semiconductor, pharmaceutical, and chemical process applications. The 3-way configuration routes flow between a common port and two selectable ports, enabling drain/fill switching from a single valve body.

How is the DVx-POL actuated?

The valve is pneumatically driven using compressed dry air (CDA) at 40 to 60 psi. It is configurable in two actuation modes: air-to-open/air-to-close (double-acting, where air pressure controls both open and close strokes) and spring return (fail-safe, where a spring drives the valve to a default position on loss of air pressure — either spring-to-close or spring-to-open). This makes the DVx-POL suitable for both standard automated drain cycles and safety-critical applications requiring defined fail-state behavior.

What materials and sizes are available?

The standard body material is polypropylene, selected for broad chemical compatibility with acids, bases, and solvents at temperatures up to 160°F (70°C). Three O-ring seal materials cover the chemical compatibility spectrum: EPDM for general aqueous chemistry, Viton for aggressive solvents and higher temperatures, and Kalrez FFKM for extreme chemical resistance in the most demanding processes. Port sizes range from ¾ to 2 inches, with FNPT threaded or socket weld end connections. The valve is also available in 2-way and 4-way port configurations — the DVx suffix in the part number designates the material (POL = polypropylene), while the port count and size are customer-specified at order.

Where is the DVx-POL used?

Typical applications include automated drain/fill of chemical process tanks, semiconductor wet benches, pharmaceutical mixing vessels, and DI water rinse stations. The large-orifice design (up to 2 inches) supports high-flow rapid draining where gravity-driven flow must be remotely controlled. For higher-temperature or more aggressive solvent service, IPS offers chemically related DVx series variants in PVDF (DVx-PVDF) and PTFE body materials with the same port configuration and actuation options.
