Product Description

The EB 80 BOXI is a compact electro-pneumatic manifold base that condenses the EB 80 valve island platform into a lighter, smaller footprint — roughly 35% less weight and 30% less space than an equivalent modular EB 80 assembly. It is factory-configured for 4, 6, 8, or 12 valve positions and accepts the full range of EB 80 series solenoid valves.

Why choose a valve island over individually wired solenoid valves?

Each standalone solenoid valve needs its own cable run, connector, and PLC output. A valve island consolidates all of that into a single multipolar D-Sub connection — the 4-position BOXI uses a 9-pin connector; the 6/8/12-position versions use a 26-pin connector. This cuts wiring time, reduces cabinet space, and eliminates a major source of installation errors. The BOXI also needs no auxiliary power supply: the control electronics draw power directly from the solenoid command signals, provided each output can source at least 500 mA.

How does the 0.3 W per valve power consumption work?

Conventional solenoid valves draw continuous holding current — typically 2–5 W per coil — which adds up quickly in a multi-valve manifold. The BOXi's onboard microprocessor uses PWM (pulse-width modulation) constant-current control. At activation, a 3 W "speed-up" boost pulse fires for 15 ms to shift the spool; once shifted, the current drops to a holding level that consumes just 0.3 W. Over a 12-valve island running 24/7, this difference can cut thermal load and energy cost by an order of magnitude compared to conventional direct-driven coils.

What diagnostics does the BOXI provide?

Each valve position has a bicolor LED: steady green for normal operation, steady red for a detected fault (open or shorted coil, over-/under-voltage). A dedicated ERR LED on the base signals global status — flashing when a solenoid is interrupted or missing, steady when the supply voltage is out of the 10.8–31.2 V DC range. All protections (overload, polarity inversion, short-circuit) are built into the base electronics, so a single faulty coil does not take down the entire manifold.

Which EB 80 valves fit the BOXI base?

The BOXI accepts all valves from the EB 80 platform: twin 2/2-way, 3/2 NC and NO, 5/2 monostable and bistable, 5/3 closed-center and pressure-center, and shut-off modules. High-flow valves rated to 1250 Nl/min are available on the ø10 mm port variant. Interchangeable cartridge fittings accommodate tubing from ø4 to ø10 mm, with supply/exhaust inlets up to ø12 mm.
