Product Description
The R525P from Lin Engineering is a combined stepper motor driver and controller operating from 12 to 48 VDC. Run current is software-programmable from 0.1 to 5.0 A peak per phase; hold current adjustable from 0 to 5.0 A peak in 0.05 A increments for reduced motor heating during stationary periods.
What microstep resolutions are available?
Fifteen resolutions from full step to 256× microstepping — with a standard 1.8° stepper motor this delivers from 200 up to 51,200 steps per revolution. Resolutions include: full, 2×, 4×, 5×, 8×, 10×, 16×, 25×, 32×, 50×, 64×, 125×, 128×, 250×, 256×.
How is the driver configured and controlled?
USB and RS-485 interfaces for parameter configuration, motion commands, and diagnostics. Step and direction inputs accept TTL squarewave signals (0–5 VDC) up to 1 MHz. An opto-isolation option requires 5 VDC on the opto COM pin; if isolation is not needed, the pin can be connected to the onboard +5 VDC output (Pin 1).
Does it support closed-loop operation?
Yes — the R525P supports both open-loop step/direction control and closed-loop operation when paired with an encoder on the motor. In closed-loop mode the driver compensates for position error, stall detection, and torque ripple, improving accuracy under varying load conditions.
